Community Awareness

Auto Supply Company believes it is a social responsibility to invest long-term in the communities in which they conduct business. Therefore, in 2008 the Company made a formal commitment to develop a strategic plan that measures and reports on this activity.

Auto Supply currently stretches from the coast to the mountains and from Roanoke to Charlotte. These are the communities from which we recruit, work, live, socialize, and service customers. It is for all of these reasons that we made a formal commitment to give back to these communities and establish programs within a policy and procedure framework that formalizes the Community Awareness action plan.

Committee members for 2008:

  • Ken Baughman (Lenoir)
  • Kim Brown (Winston-Salem)
  • Sharon Kidd (Winston-Salem)
  • Monica Murphy (Winston-Salem)
  • Rita Wood (Winston-Salem)

I. Corporate Initiative:

To donate a vehicle back to the Winston-Salem community where it can further service a family in need.

Family Services of the Piedmont was contacted for this initiative since they currently have established a Ways to Work program that helps individuals who are trying to re-establish themselves in the community by financing reliable used vehicles to get back and forth to work and help get their children to and from daycare or school. Auto Supply donated an Impala on May 27, 2008 in response to their need. We also received several generous contributions for oil changes and inspections from our customers to help support the Ways to Work program.

II. By Location Initiative:

Because our employee and customer base spreads further than the Winston-Salem area, we believe it is important to encourage other locations to support local causes that are important to them. A presentation for initiative was made at the March BOW and every location was given applications to support a by location initiative. In its first year, three locations responded. Chad Langham will be walking on behalf of 15 at the annual Alzheimer’s walk-a-thon. Location 25 will be volunteering at the Hospice of Lower Cape Fear.  On November 7, 2008 Laurie Taylor, Vice Preseident of Development at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation wrote thanking Auto Supply Company for the donation of $473.79 from Branch 25's benefit concert.  The support and generosity of the employees is greatly appreciated. Their kindness will enable more patients and their families through end-of-life issues. Great Job!

With a lot of help from Sharon Kidd, the company was extremely successful in revamping our annual customer appreciation golf tournament into a charitable event.  This year Auto Supply agreed to raise the money for Multiple Sclerosis. Rick Brown was successful in selling enough Mulligans that we raised $1,175 for the event and Auto Supply matched the contribution!

III. Scholarship Initiative:

Four $500 scholarships to be awarded to rising seniors of our employees and the graduating children of our customers who will be entering a two-year program in the automotive field.

Correspondence announcing this scholarship opportunity was mailed to the homes and customers’ places of business. This is an exciting opportunity for Auto Supply to directly impact the future of our industry and we are hopeful that each year we will see this initiative grow.

IV. Work Place Green Initiatives:

We at Auto Supply Company believe that the future of all existence depends on how we treat our resources today. Because of this we are proud to announce that we will take a proactive approach to support initiatives that address environmental issues in order to serve our team members, customers and communities within which we operate.

Communication with specific “green” ideas and Earth Day Celebrations around our communities was emailed and posted to all employees on April 17, 2008. Then on April 22, 2008 our delivery personnel was armed with dozens of trees to deliver to customers in recognition of Earth Day.
